Hive 1 October Block

Please use cheery fabrics. Just think happy. I would like 12.5 inch (12 inch finished) blocks. For the wonky stars I would like the background to be a solid color or a tone on tone color. I would prefer not to use white or grey as the background but if that's whats you have it will be fine. The finished quilt will look like this one:

Here is a close up of some of the wonky stars I have made:
You can find a wonky star tutorial here. If you need instructions on a wonky log cabin just email me :)

I really appreciate you making blocks for me! I cant wait to see them!!

Hive 1 - Sept. Blocks for Danny

So, I'm not 100% happy with these blocks for you, Danny.
Maybe I'm being picky?
Thought I would show them to you and give you a couple options 'cause I want you to have rockin' blocks.

Block one -
My points got massacred. I even felt kind of bad taking a picture of them. Also I'm not sure about the dot fabrics in it.

Stash Bee - Sept

Block Two-
The points went way better but if you look on the bottom left you can see a section of it is short. Is it too short?
Stash Bee - Sept

Do you want me to applique a circle over the center of Block One?
I could even just remake the whole thing.
I really don't mind. If you want me to remake or applique, please just let me know and then I can bring your finished blocks to Sewing Summit. Otherwise I can drop these two in the mail for you.

I'm trying Danny

I was so happy until I realized I did not do the points correctly. I didn't leave the 1/4" seam allowance. Back to the drawing board. I'll get it done Danny before SS.

STASH #3

Hello ladies x I hope you will forgive me for posting a few days early... I work nights so have to grab the chance when I can xx

Next to my family (including the dogs!!) and sewing , a BIG ,love in my life is my garden... which this year has been soggy and a bit of a loss!

................................................SO..................................................

For my block this month I am asking you to send me a flower... or flowers ...your choice x

I ask that you start with a 13 inch square of PLAIN (solid) fabric...

any colour , your choice... but PLAIN. This can then be trimmed ... by me... to the size of the smallest I receive.

This is the flower block I have made for this month..

I do not want a signature block... but I do want you to sign your name and location on the front of the block xx

I have looked at my previous flower projects and will post a few pictures that hopefull will provide inspiration xx

It does not have to be a REAL flower if you fancy going a bit abstract... just a flower for my indoor garden.

HAVE FUN xx

Thanking you in advance xx

Keep smiling

Diane xx

Hive #2 September

I'm running a little behind this month.  It's my last month of pregnancy, and I haven't been feeling all that great, so I kept putting off my bee blocks.  I finally got around to it today, and luckily, all my blocks for bees this month were super easy-- wish I had done them sooner so I didn't worry about it all month long.

The colors in the picture are pretty bad (taken inside at night), but I didn't want to put off pictures until tomorrow in case my baby comes.  I'm due in three days, so it could happen at any moment.  Luckily, all my blocks are packaged up for the post office, so I could have my husband send them off if necessary.

Hope you like the block!  I left it untrimmed (it's about 1/2"-1" bigger) so you could cut off whichever side you wanted or center it if you wanted as well.  Hope that's okay.

Hive #3 blocks

Here are my September blocks for Lauren! They were fun to make and it was great to dig through my stash and find hidden treasures in there.  I might have to make a quilt out of these in the future.   I can't wait to see how your quilt comes out!

I'll get these in the mail later this week.

Hive 2 Blocks for Anneliese

These are my first Stash Bee blocks, and they were a lot of fun to make.
Anneliese - they are bigger than 12 1/2".  I thought I would send them as is and let you trim them down.
I think the colors are brighter and shinier in person.  I hope you like them!
I will put them in the mail next week (if I can find the addresses again...)  LOL!

Hive #4 Block for Amber

This is late for a very good reason - we left California on July 15, and I took only minimal stash with me. No black. We've been in Colorado, and there are no quilt shops near the places we've been. But I got lucky last weekend - there was a big quilt show over in Creede, and one of the vendors had black fabric. So here's your block, Amber!

Hive #1 for Lisa - Late Sorry!

This is very late.  Thanks to the Olympics and other activates I basically lost all my August sewing time, i.e. weekends...  so on a catchup.

Following the pattern details like a few others mine is over long / tall - so I've left for you to remove what layers you don't want.

Hope you like!

Hive 1 September Block for Danny

Here are my first contributions to the group.  Thanks so much for having me!  Danny, I hope these work for you :)  I had a steep learning curve on these, but I think they turned out OK.  They're on their way.

Hive 2 Block for Anneliese

I hope you like this!  I'm thinking the grey might not be as bright as you wanted.  I think I spaced out when I was picking fabric.  I'll be shipping it out tomorrow!

Bursts for Danny (Hive 1)

I paper-pieced these, thank goodness (my improv is...less aligned). The first one came out particularly keen to make a pinwheel centre, so I have taken the liberty of Sun-bursting it ;)
The honey ants are a bush food delicacy in Central Australia; the circles often represent waterholes in Aboriginal art.

Hive 2 Block for Anneliese!

Here you go Anneliese!  I hope you love it!

September Stash Bee

The lighting's a bit funky but I love the way it turned out.

It'll be in the mail to you ASAP

Hive 4: September

Here is my block. There seems to be a bit of a log cabin theme in this month's block. I really enjoyed letting rip and putting together a load of my favourite fabrics that I normally wouldn't dream of using together - but I love the result - I hope you do, Caroline!

The thin strip that looks like it has a brown background is actually dark purple!

Hive #2 - September Block

Stash Bee - 9/12

I'm excited to join Hive #2-- my first quilting bee ever! This block is for Anneliese -- I hope you like it! I posted about this block today on my blog.

September blocks

Last Sunday was a huge sewing catch up day.  My man left for the Pendleton Round Up, the boys were with Grandpa all day and I spent the day in my mom cave. I needed one of those kind of days! :)

hive two :: september

Gotter done and on it's way to you, Anneliese! I did my best to keep it bright for you; it's a lil Katamari inpsired too. It's slightly larger than 12.5", so you can trim it as you see fit. It was difficult keeping it all strait (you can see that sliver of unruly blue), and I hope it works for the quilt. Other than that, it was fun to put together.
Hope you're having an awesome Tuesday :)

Hive #3 - Scrappy Wonky Log Cabin block for Lauren

Hello!  Hope everyone's September has been good thus far.
I was able to get three of your blocks done Lauren.  I hope you like them!

The centers are red - although a couple look a little orange.  They should go in the mail later this week.
Take care!

Hive 4 - September Block Finished (Before the End of the Month!)

For once, I managed to get a block ready and completed before the end of the month.  Considering that the month of October is going to be dreadful with packing up and moving and then unpacking, I'm pretty happy to have September done with.

I have to say, I had fun with the mildly improvisational nature of this block (varying widths as I went) - it forced me to work a little outside my comfort zone of uniformity and pre-planned blocks, without going crazy with wonkiness.  I don't know if my soul is prepared for that yet! The biggest challenge was finding strips in my stash in suitable colors long enough to handle the longer lengths/widths.  I was scraping bottom there at the end, and I hope those outer sections are OK.

At any rate, the finished block is closer to 13 x 13 - I wanted you to be able to trim down whichever side(s) you wanted as the center block has gotten, well, off-center (which I assume is acceptable and to be expected).

Thanks for a fun, stress-free block and I apologize in advance to the October Bee Mama - just plan on mine being late, though I will do my best to complete it before I pack up all my sewing stuff!  This one will be in the mail this week as soon as I make it to the post office!

Hive #1 Danny's

Danny,

How adamant are you that the centers be all pointy?! :D  I only ask because I am making enough to send you a few and enough for me to make a quilt too since once I started sewing them I found I liked them and they are fun and quickish to sew.  I'm making a dozen of each set of 12 fabrics since I just stacked a dozen, 13 inch squares and whacked them up.  So these are the first 6 of the first dozen.  I figure I'll pick the 2 from each set with the best centers, since I think I figured out how to make them better since the one that is half done, half under my needle right now seems to be coming out pointier.

Keeping in mind this is just the first 6 from the first set of 12 and I'm going to make at least one more set of 12 after this one.  Are these fabrics okay? and how picky are you about the center points?  Those are the two big questions I need answered. :D

Update

I figured out the pointy middle issue!  So now all I need to know is are these colors okay, even though there will only be 2 from these fabrics and then 2 from another set and maybe even 2 from another set...... :D
